Structural heart intervention by trans-catheter technology has grown into a distinct subspecialty of cardiology largely due to advances in device technology and cardiac imaging. This imaging offers the spatial resolution and real-time anatomical detail to permit structural intervention without direct surgical visualization. Structural heart imaging, primarily employing CT and TEE requires additional time, training and knowledge, not conventionally taught in general cardiology fellowship and are not routinely part of clinical cardiovascular practice.
